What’s your logo?

While there are various types of logo to choose from, there are still lots of things to consider when deciding which would best characterize the idea you want to communicate. First and foremost, you should look at the value it may add, or the false impression it may create on the image you want to establish.
Some types of logo might not be appropriate to use for a certain industry to attract a target market. Wrong choice might spell disaster. A comprehensive knowledge on the different types of logo would help determine what could be the best and more suitable to match your needs. The logo should be able to speak a lot about whom or what it represents.

Nowadays, creating a customized logo design that fits your requirement is much easier to do due to the influx of new technology and the availability of varied logo design softwares. However, it would be a big advantage if you would understand the different types of logo to further identify which would create a greater impact and help boost your company or your product’s brand image.
The three types of logo may be categorized as follows:

Iconic
From the root word icon, an iconic type of logo is actually a symbol or figure that represents the company. Perhaps, this kind of logo is the most common but the most difficult to design as well. It includes abstract ideas that make it more complicated to draft. It requires complex ideas which are combined into one concept and translated into its simplest form.

Unlike other types of logo, icon logos use solid geometric shapes, arranged in a way that it would be easily recognized by its viewer. Who wouldn’t know the famous iconic logos of Nike, Adidas, Shell, among others that dominate the market today?  Truly, icon logos may be considered as the most effective in creating an impact and easy recall to its viewers.

Illustrative
Generally, an illustrative logo is one of the most influential types of logo in the market.  It depicts the principles that a brand or company embodies. This type of logo vividly explains the complexity or simplicity of your business. It also tries to create an impression of what your company is all about. It communicates the idea that the company wants to send to its potential clients.

On the other hand, designing illustrative logo would take much time. Slogans, illustrations, as well as the right color combination, must be seriously considered.  Illustrative logo designs must provide a unique identity for the company, establishing its distinct trademark above the rest.

Text/Wordmark
The simplest yet with the highest recall.  Text or Wordmark is a uniquely styled font type that spells out the company or brand name. Though it may seem very simple, this logo type requires the most innovative type font, refreshing colors, and distinct feature, to create an impact. Because it relies solely on the texts and colors, there is a big challenge on how it will effectively build a lasting image for the brand or company it represents.
